21st December 2010 – HMS Belfast

Festive colours light up HMS Belfast at Christmas.

This is a well-known vessel, no longer in active service and permanently moored in this part of the River Thames.

My comment about active service only refers to military duty. You can hire it as a venue for functions, including weddings. I don’t know who said it first, but the 60’s slogan “Make love not war” comes to mind.

In the background is the more famous Tower Bridge. Although it does not occupy much space in the picture, it nevertheless dominates. Note the position of HMS Belfast. Look at the railings and the lights above. These create lines that point towards the iconic bridge.
